The Stockholm University Choir and the Anglistenchor Heidelberg warmly invite you to an exceptional choir concert on Saturday, June 1, at 6:30 PM in the Högalidskyrkan in Stockholm. As part of an international choir exchange, both choirs will present a captivating blend of Nordic folk music and English choral works under the title “Röster från norr – Körklassiker från England och Norden” (Voices from the North – Choral Classics from England and Scandinavia).

The Anglistenchor, under the direction of Alexander Albrecht, presents a diverse program featuring works by Nystedt, Byrd, Morley, Weelkes, Rutter, and Wilke. The repertoire spans from English Renaissance music to modern arrangements of English folk songs. Additionally, the concert will include the (re)performance of “Life has loveliness to sell,” a piece composed by Jan Wilke specifically for the choir in early 2024.

The Stockholm University Choir, under the direction of Leon Tscholl, will transport the audience into the Nordic soundscape with Swedish classics such as “Wem kan segla förutan vind?” (Who Can Sail Without Wind) and “Tyst är det rum” (Silent is the Room) from the Three Miniatures by Gabriella Gullin.

Together, the two choirs will sing two of the most famous Swedish folk songs: the Summer Psalm by Waldemar Ahlen and “Kung Liljekonvalje” (King Lily of the Valley) by David Wikander. As musical highlights, particularly in light of current political events, “Wie liegt die Stadt so wüst” by Rudolf Mauersberger and “Lux aeterna” by Edward Elgar will also be performed with united efforts.

The same program was already performed to great acclaim in the sold-out Peterskirche in Heidelberg on May 11, 2024, during the Stockholm University Choir’s visit to Heidelberg.
