Peterskirche Heidelberg
The University Choir Stockholm and the English Studies Choir Heidelberg warmly invite you to an extraordinary choral concert taking place on Saturday, May 11th at 7 PM in the Peterskirche Heidelberg. Under the title “Life has Loveliness – Songs of Scandinavia and the British Isles,” a fascinating mix of Nordic folk music and English choral works will be performed.
The Anglistenchor under the direction of Alexander Albrecht, presents a versatile program that includes works by Nystedt, Byrd, Morley, Weelkes, Rutter, and Wilke. The range of pieces spans from English Renaissance music to modern arrangements of English folk songs; additionally, “Life has loveliness to sell,” a work composed specifically for the choir by Jan Wilke at the beginning of 2024, will be (re)performed.
The University Choir Stockholm, under the direction of Leon Tscholl, will take the audience into the Nordic world of sound with, among other pieces, Swedish classics such as “Vem kan segla förutan vind?” (Who can sail without wind?) and “Tyst är det rum” (The room is silent) from the “Three Miniatures” by Gabriella Gullin.
Together, the two choirs will perform two of the most famous Swedish folk songs, namely “Sommarpsalm” (Summer Psalm) by Waldemar Åhlén and “Kung Liljekonvalje” (King Lily of the Valley) by David Wikander. As musical highlights, especially against the backdrop of current political events, “Wie liegt die Stadt so wüst” (How desolate lies the city) by Rudolf Mauersberger and “Lux Aeterna” by Edward Elgar will also be presented with united forces.
