What happens when a choir does not follow a predefined artistic plan, but instead chooses its own music? When voices do not just sing, but also help shape the program?

Wishes is a concert program that has grown out of personal wishes. The singers of our choir proposed their favorite pieces—works that move, accompany, or challenge them. The result is a musically and stylistically diverse program that creates space for individuality as well as shared resonance.

Sacred music by Rheinberger, Mendelssohn, Rutter, Lotti, Gibbons, and Tallis stands alongside secular works by Vaughan Williams, Britten, Poulenc, Brahms, Josquin des Prez, Hugo Wolf, and others. The spectrum ranges from contemplative Renaissance music through Romantic soundscapes to politically engaged choral music of the 20th century.

Some of the pieces are accompanied by brief introductions that offer insights into the stories and thoughts behind their selection. They open small windows into the personal connections to the music—not to explain it, but to make it more immediately tangible.

Wishes sees itself as a participatory project. It places the community at its center, questions traditional notions of artistic authority, and shows how choral work can come alive as a collective, multi-voiced process.

An evening that fulfills wishes—and perhaps awakens new ones.

The first concert will take place on Saturday, 11 July at 7.30 pm at Stadtkirche Karlsruhe-Durlach, where the Anglistenchor will be performing as guests in the ‘Art of Choral Music’ series. Tickets are available for €10 (€5 concessions) at the box office.

The second concert will follow on Sunday 12 July at 7.00 pm at the Alte Aula of Heidelberg University. Admission is free, but donations are welcome.
